Urban

In the urban series I practice the art of removing myself from a bustling city environment and freezing a particular moment, while also exploring my own perspective of the outside world.

Since I had my hands on a Nikormat at the age of 16 I have been fascinated by street photography and its focus on candid moments. I remember taking photos and contemplating what actually comprises the “art” of street photography.  Can an artist be a passive observer, or does an artist inherently interfere with the authenticity, or candid nature scene he or she is photographing? If so does this interference occur only during the split second in which they take a photo, without truly impacting the events being observed?, Or does the very presence of an outside observer, and the decision to take a photo at the particular time and place, contribute to the content of the image that is captured?
